If you could run any setting forever, would it be fantasy, sci-fi, or something mixed?

Much as I would love to produce a fantastical opera such as Robert Jordans “Wheel of Time” or EE Doc Smith’s “Lensman Series” I suspect that while accepting the royalties the two mentioned authors made you would grow bored with the ideas eventually. It was only occassionaly but I spent many (almost twenty) years writing the “Faerie River” tales. Mostly they consisted of a few novels and a number of short stories. I was writing other books on very different subjects at the same time. Despite only spending a short time on each of the stories I felt it was time to end this series. You grow lazy when not creating something new.
Two novels to finish the series “The Dead Girl and the Wandering Tree” was produced two years ago and “The Dark Kind” will be published later this year. setting that series aside forever.
Much as I have enjoyed writing it and the series itself I am glad to finally see it done and do something completely different.
Lol- but to finally, answer the question, I could have gone on, much like an actor in a soap opera, doing the same thing forever, accepting the paycheck. But I have new ideas.

a completely new novel and an ending to all of the river tales.  It will be hearalded, Proclaimed and advertised as both the publishers and public are awaiting a conclusion to "The dead girl and the wandering tree".  Well this is it.
