I am just back from a seafaring holiday; "The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi" by Shannon Chakraborty was a wonderful accompaniment. "Snuff" by Terry Pratchett was magical, perhaps his most thoughtful novel and "Neuromancer" by William Gibson was horrible and fascinating at the same time.
The first is a wondrous seafaring romp with Pirates, magic, and everything else thrown into the mix. I loved it.
The second, a comedy, A comedy that includes depth and some pretty serious philosophy hidden in the mayhem. Terry was a great British writer and I enjoyed entering his worlds once more. Hilarious whilst thoughtful and considered. A masterpiece.
And, of course, what do you say about Neuromancer. A cosmopolitan sleigh ride on speed. The book that gave us "The Matrix" , essential Nihilism, quickfire thought and enhancements (I know Gregory Benford explored some of these Ideas) in this weird slalom of science fiction.
