I was asked the question, "Is there any book where the writing is perfect"
Updated: Nov 14
Here is my answer.
Everyone has different tastes in books, movies or shows so I do not think that any one of them would hold universal appeal. Nor do many books have “perfect writing”. My own do not. However, being a writer, I have read many books. There is an odd book here and there where I cannot fault even a small section of the selected words. Some of these books I have read more than once and have still noticed nothing that would detract from my view of them. I have read (perhaps) five thousand books in my life. I have been a writer for decades and as a writer you have an internal editor that fixes the books you are reading as you read them. It is rare when reading, even great writers that editor does not kick in. Yet there is the odd book here and there, where nothing jangles, nothing jars, the internal editor does not kick in. Those books are few and certainly would not be universally liked, but the writing is delightful.
The perfect mix of literary wonder and an exceptional story.
Delightful writing, a wondrous retelling of the old Faerie Tale.
The epitome of haunting writing.
Now we are looking at perfection. Sir Walter was the Shakespeare of a later age. Enjoyable, easily readable despite its antiquity. Lastly, I would suggest the Iliad. Who really knows if it was written well or because it is so ancient that we simply admire it, and it is the translators that we must thank. I do not care as I consider it perfect.
Now.
I am going to add one of my own books here, not because I think it perfect, all my books are flawed. Simply because I wish one of my books to be on the same page as those who have written almost perfect works. Maybe I will gain something from the misty shadow that creeps downwards from these great works to me. A humble storyteller.
