What makes a 10-20 minute sci-fi story satisfying when most shows need hours to develop their worlds?

Ideas. I know I should be writing more here but a cool original idea is all it takes. Read David Brin’s “The Giving Plague” or Azimov's “I Robot” Clarke’s “Songs of distant Earth or Rama” and I could keep going for hours but I do not wish to bore you all rigid with great sci-fi tales. Thats the thing. A great idea competently written will blow your mind. A crap idea written by the most wonderful writer will leave you, well… Hermann Hesse and Marcel Proust are perhaps two of the greatest writers ever. Have you ever enjoyed, truly, enjoyed any story or book?
I say Stephen King and Thomas Harris have entertained me more.
