The veracity of "Truth"

Writer's picture: Ray T WalkerRay T Walker

Many of you will know of "Hilary Mantel", A writer of Historical fiction. She is a writer that defends "fact's", as fact, yet there is only "fact" from a singular point of view. What we imagine to be a truth, or a fact is simply the correct answer based upon what we know at the time.

Hilary suggested in "Wolf Hall" a great piece of work; "It is the absence of facts that frightens people: the gap you open, into which they pour their fears, fantasies, desires."

I am not usually a fan of Hilary Mantel, despite the fact that she is good writer, a little too dry for me. But I like this quote. Please beware of what Ms Mantel calls "facts" as mostly they are just ideas she wishes to be true, or the most that is known at the time.

Facts have a shelf-life, a sell by date, if you wish (Hilary has not grasped this fact yet) and as each new archeological and physical discovery is made, those facts decay into new ones, which will also adapt or persish over time.

The truth, the facts, are allways adapting and changing and will always continue to do so.

Callisthenes changed the rules of history and we need to adapt to them. There is always a point of view. Napoleon, to the parisian french was a horror sent to them by the devil, a few miles away, less than an hour by car, he was the second coming of Christ. The truth is simply what you wish it to be.

A mythical beast stands over a simple human, dwarfing, humbling the person.
The Beast is a short novel that is available for free from my website. A tale excised from "He who is Lost" and set in the same world. It also acts as a precursor to "The Dark Kind"

What’s New With Raymond Walker

As you can see from the notes above,  "Under Dark Skies" will be released on the 18th of October. Earlier for those who have funds to buy the early edition hardback. I have started doing a little pre-publication advertising and held a talk about its forthcoming release. Happily, the pre-publication reviews have been great. Comments such as "Dark and Delicious" From Lucy Briggs of "Wondrous Tales" and "A clever, accomplished Mystery" from fellow author Rob Anderson have done nothing but confirm my enthusiasm for this Book.

18th October.
Under Dark Skies.
