Abominable

I just finished "Abominable" by Dan Simmons, one of my favourite writers.

I enjoyed this book, much as I have always enjoyed Dan Simmons books. I did feel that he stretched the limits on this one, too much detail and too little story at times but I am always willing to forgive him his little excesses in favour of a good story.

This is a great tale, An assault on Everest after Mallory's demise would always be intriguing, made more so by the addition of the "Abominable snowman" who may or may not exist. I would rate this highly for most other authors but Dan Simmons is capable of better. For me it was a little disappointing from such a great writer. Perhaps I am over optimistic, I always expect "Magic" from Dan Simmons and most times he delivers. this is still a great novel.

What’s New With Raymond Walker

Mid May 2025 will see the release of "The Pale Shadow" . An unusual ghost story. Raymond wishes this to be a quiet release as it follows the story of an earlier (deleted) book that he wished to improve.

"The Dark Kind" will follow before the end of this year (2025) a completely new novel and an ending to all of the river tales.  It will be hearalded, Proclaimed and advertised as both the publishers and public are awaiting a conclusion to "The dead girl and the wandering tree".  After that will come "Sad Green Eyes" around may 2026. Then...who knows.
